MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM

"HG Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam" Review: An in-depth examination of the differences between "Mighty Strike Freedom" and its predecessor, "Strike Freedom"!

In this article, I will thoroughly review the "HG 1/144 Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam" from the movie "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM"! Let's clear up a lot of things and see what has changed from the previous "HGCE 1/144 Strike Freedom Gundam"!

First, the "Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam" will be described. The main body is the "Strike Freedom Gundam Type 2" (hereinafter referred to as "Type 2"), a mobile suit that Erika Simmons and others at Morgenrete have improved with the latest technology along with the restoration of the "Strike Freedom Gundam". In terms of shape, the "head", "shoulders", "arms", "gauntlets" and "skirt around the waist" have been changed, and almost all of the armament has been replaced with different items.

The "Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam" is a model of such a "Type 2" with an additional wing unit, the "Proud Defender", docked to it.

First, let's compare the main body of the "Type 2" with the "Strike Freedom Gundam" (hereinafter referred to as "Strike Freedom").

The "Type 2" is reproduced in a new molding! Attention is a molding color.

The "HGCE 1/144 Strike Freedom Gundam" was released in 2016. The "HG 1/144 Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam" has been newly sculpted and reproduced in Gundam models, with no diversions from the previous "Strike Freedom" model, in accordance with the play's setting in which the main body has been updated to "Type 2" and the "back unit" has been renewed.

MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
Remove the back unit and compare the main unit. At a quick glance, it looks the same, but the details have changed, so I will compare them close-up!
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
Compare the head. Of course, all the parts have been completely redesigned, and the shape of each part has changed, especially the eyes.
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
"Type 2" has a beam cannon "Convergent Heavy Nucleon Beam Cannon Disruptor" mounted in the center of the antenna, and its deployed state can be reproduced. This is the biggest change to the head.

The "Convergent Heavy Nucleon Beam Cannon Disruptor" originally has a structure in which the forehead armor is divided into right and left parts when in use, and the main cannon appears from inside, but in Gundam models this is reproduced by replacing the parts. The parts to be replaced are one yellow color, with a sticker near the center. The antenna part is thin, so be careful not to damage it when replacing it!

MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
Compare the abdomen (gold part). "Strike Freedom" had a beam cannon, "Callidus Multi-Phase Beam Cannon", but in "Type 2", it is renamed the "Tvastar Super-High Impulse Cannon". It is treated as a different weapon in the setting, and is also a different shape in the Gundam model!
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
Comparison from shoulder to arm. The shoulder of "Type 2" has a light gray color, and the shape of the gauntlets on the forearms has also changed.
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
And what you should pay attention to is the molding color of this gold part!

This time, "Real Metallic Gloss Injection", a material with increased metallic luster, is used for the gold parts, reproducing a deeper, more luxurious shade compared to the "Strike Freedom" model. This is a particularly nice specification for fans who do not usually paint!

The leg section differs in the specifications around the rail gun. In "Strike Freedom", the railgun could be moved behind the waist, but in "Type 2", this movable gimmick has been eliminated. In "Type 2", the position of the railgun is fixed to the left and right of the waist, and a high-energy beam rifle can be mounted on top of the railgun.

It also shares some similarities with the "first generation Freedom".

MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
Furthermore, let's compare it with the first "HGCE 1/144 Freedom Gundam" (left). It is interesting to note that although "Mighty Strike Freedom" is basically similar in shape to "Strike Freedom", it shares some features with the "first generation Freedom".

The beam saber of "Type 2" is mounted on top of the railgun. It is rather closer to "first generation Freedom" than to the "Strike Freedom". (The left image is the "first generation Freedom")

Posing with the legs together is now possible in "Type 2".

Now, let's go back to the comparison between "Type 2" and "Strike Freedom". Let's take a closer look at the legs.

MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
Comparison of the legs. The legs of "Type 2" are more voluminous than those of "Strike Freedom". Also, the back of the legs of "Strike Freedom" had a flesh cutout, but in "Type 2", the flesh cutout has been eliminated.
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
The shape of the calf and the deployment gimmick of the parts are also different.
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
Furthermore, in "Type 2", the connecting axes of the hip joints of both legs are individually movable to swing up and down, enabling a pose in which the legs are aligned with the toes extended. This movement was not implemented in the "Strike Freedom", so it seems that it has been updated in terms of movement as well!

The back unit has been redesigned! Can be displayed as a stand-alone unit.

So far I have compared the main body "Type 2" and "Strike Freedom", but now I will look at the additional wing unit "Proud Defender", which is one of the main selling points. When docked with the "Type 2", the "Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam" is complete!

MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
This is the "Proud Defender". The backpacks of "First Freedom" and "Strike Freedom" could not be displayed separately, but this one has a 3mm hole in the bottom for a stand, making it compatible with action bases and other 3mm axis type stands.
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
On the starboard joint of the "Proud Defender" is mounted the "Futsunomitama" anti-ship sword. This is another feature of the "Mighty Strike Freedom"!
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
Compare the backs of "Strike Freedom" and "Mighty Strike Freedom".
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
Since the standard of the back is the same "2-hole type", the back unit can be replaced without modification.
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
Here is "Type 2" with "Strike Freedom" unit attached.
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
The white wing of the "Proud Defender" can be slid in 8 positions to recreate its deployed state. The pink luminescence is represented by a gorgeous 3D metallic sticker with a glossy finish, which is another selling point of this model!
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
Very cool with the wings extended! The flat hands are securely attached for both sides. This completes the "Mighty Strike Freedom Gundam"!

Some of the armament is the same as before the renovation.

MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
The high-energy beam rifle is the only "same armament as before the renovation" in the setting. However, it is reproduced in a new modeling in Gundam plastic models.
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
Displayed in two bodies with high-energy beam rifles.
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
Two high-energy beam rifles can be jointed back and forth to recreate a long rifle with a long range and high power output. Although the shape is different, the gimmick is the same for both "Strike Freedom" and "Type 2"!
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
One point to note. It may be an individual difference, but the "Strike Freedom" rifle drooped forward and could not be held cleanly. However, it has been a long time since the rifle was assembled, so there is a high possibility that this is due to loosening over time. By the way, I did not feel any sign of the "Type 2" rifle sagging down so far.
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
Comparison of beam shields (top: "Strike Freedom", bottom: "Type 2"). The beam effect parts themselves are different, although they share the same structure of inserting the beam effect parts between the gauntlet and the red parts. In terms of the settings, the name has also changed: "MX2200 Beam Shield" for "Strike Freedom" and "MMI-X220 Egregie Beam Shield" for "Type 2".
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
The rail gun has the same deployment gimmick, but its shape, performance, and name have also changed to "Xiphias 3" Railgun" on "Strike Freedom" and "Forance Asta Railgun" on "Type 2". "Strike Freedom" can mount a beam saber, while the "Type 2" has a hole to mount a high-energy beam rifle.

The following is a summary of the general evolution from "Strike Freedom" to "Mighty Strike Freedom".

  • The main body has become "Type 2" and the shape has also changed.
  • "Real metallic gloss injection" was adopted for the gold part to increase the metallic luster.
  • The hip joint connecting axis is now swingable.
  • The back unit has been completely redesigned.
  • Almost all new armament.

These are the five points.

Last but not least, let's take a look at one of the features of the "Mighty Strike Freedom", the Japanese sword entity sword "Futsunomitama"!

The Japanese sword-shaped entity sword "Futsunomitama" is very cool!

MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
This is the "Anti-Ship Sword Futsunomitama". It is a jet-black sword in the shape of a Japanese sword, and the blade is reproduced in a black molded color that glitters when illuminated.
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
This Japanese sword is a unique feature of the "Mighty Strike Freedom"!
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
The wide range of motion allows for a variety of poses.
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
Very cool ....... Very satisfying!

Compatible with the backpack of the HGCE "Strike Freedom" series variation kit!

As a bonus from here, since the connection standard for the backs of the "Strike Freedom" and "Mighty Strike Freedom" is a "common two-hole type", I will experiment a little to see if it is possible to replace the backpacks of other "HGCE 1/144 Strike Freedom Gundam" series variation kits.

MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
New molding, no diversions, but common back connection standard.
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
This is the backpack of "HGBD 1/144 Gundam Love Phantom" from "Gundam Build Divers". I was able to replace it without the need for any modifications.
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
Conversely, when I tried attaching the "Proud Defender" to the "HGBD 1/144 Gundam Love Phantom", although it did not fit just right, I was able to connect it to the extent that it did not come off!
MIGHTY STRIKE FREEDOM GUNDAM
Other variations of the "HGCE 1/144 Strike Freedom Gundam" kit include the "HG 1/144 Amazing Strike Freedom Gundam" (left) that appears in "Gundam Build Fighters A-R" and the "HG 1/144 Gundam Perfect Strike Freedom" (center), etc. are also on sale!

I have not checked to see if they are all compatible, but there are other Gunpla that share the same connection standard as the “Mighty Strike Freedom,” so it will be fun to try out different combinations!

An excellent kit with a high degree of satisfaction, in which the evolution as a Gunpla is definitely felt!

As the HGCE release of "Strike Freedom" was in 2016, the main body of "Strike Freedom Gundam Type 2" alone was enough of an evolutionary step.

Specifically, the joint structure without poly caps, which is the mainstream these days, has been adopted, allowing for non-stressful posing without any joint friction. In addition, thanks to the use of "real metallic gloss injection" for the gold parts, the high quality metallic expression can be enjoyed without painting, which is a high point!

If there is a weak point, it is that the beam sabers on the left and right sides of the waist fall off when moving the figure. Conversely, that is the only weak point, so I can recommend this Gunpla to anyone. If you are a fan of "Gundam SEED FREEDOM", this is definitely a "must buy" for you!

Good work.

I have not seen the movie and have no emotional attachment to this aircraft, but I bought this product because I like Stohli.
The price of this model is very high, and it is a highly finished HG model.
The parts are color coded with blue stickers on the beam rifle, but the body and wings are mostly molded in the same color. Even I, who rarely paints, was satisfied with the result.
The black sword is also cool.
The only negative point is that the wings are too large to stand on their own.
I am attaching a photo of this product without painting, only smudging with Gundam markers and stickers, so I hope it will be helpful.

Plastic model of SEED Freedom's lead aircraft

This is a plastic model of the main SEED Freedom machine.
The workmanship was not bad, but the neck is a little delicate.
Other than that, it was not bad.

headliner!

The shape of this model is almost a new mold, and differs significantly from that of the Strike Freedom.
The most notable parts are the gold glossy molding color and the black blade of the sword. The blade part is not glossy, and the belly part is not glossy.
The Proud Defender in its deployed state is beautifully finished with 3D metallic stickers.
The wings are not as large as in the movie, but they are also large and realistic.
It is effective bluff, and looks good as a decoration.
As expected, it is a headliner.
